The Story of Anne Frank Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl born in Germany in 1929. When Adolf Hitler came to power, life became very hard for Jewish people. To stay safe, Anne’s family moved to the Netherlands. But after Germany took over the Netherlands, they were in danger again. In 1942, when Anne was just 13 years old, her family went into hiding in a small secret room behind her father’s office. They called it the Secret Annex. Along with another family and a dentist, they stayed there for more than two years. They couldn’t go outside or make noise during the day because they were afraid of being caught by the Nazis. During this time, Anne started writing in her diary, which she named Kitty. She wrote about her daily life, her thoughts, her fears, and her dreams. Even though she was living in such a hard time, she stayed strong and hopeful. She wanted to become a writer one day and believed that people were still good at heart, even when the world was cruel. In August 1944, someone betrayed them, and the Nazis found their hiding place. Anne and her family were sent to concentration camps. Anne and her sister Margot died in the Bergen-Belsen camp in early 1945, just before the war ended. Her father, Otto Frank, was the only one who survived. After the war, he found Anne’s diary and decided to publish it. Her diary became famous all over the world as The Diary of a Young Girl. Anne’s story is not just sad but it is inspiring. It shows how hope and courage can survive even in the difficulties.
